I live on Griffinhill, tucked into the forest and rolling hills of New Boston NH . A magical work in progress that we've created with gardens, stone walls, lots of moss and the constant tinkle of the waterfall splashing in the fish pond. I need only to look out into the yard from my studio for inspiration. All of my work is created with natural treasures that I have found myself while walking in the woods or generously given to me by friends who have learned to recognize and appreciate the curve of a stick or an interesting fungus they might find. I have found mushrooms in my mailbox! Its been trial and error learning which mosses, fungus or mushrooms will hold up, it took years to figure out how to dry moss to perfection only to learn that if you seal it while it is still fresh, it will stay bright green. Now I will have to learn to grow it indoors for my winter work! Always having had a fascination with miniatures, I think I see things differently than most; a caraway seed makes a perfect banana when painted yellow for instance, or if you open the flower of a lupine there is a tiny bird inside! I always imagine what something could be used for in miniature. Its amazing what you see in the forest when you are looking closely and paying attention. I have found many one of a kind items. There are Faerie Houses everywhere! I wanted to bring them indoors and make them last forever, so I did. When I create my Faerie Landings, I usually find one piece I am sure I want to use, and then the rest just comes together like a picture puzzle, trying different pieces until they look like they belong there. Adding ponds with waterfalls and fish really brings them to life. Then of course the faeries usually arrive one at a time, if your lucky you will see two or three.. My Faeries are all made with polymer clay which are fired in a home oven. When applying the resin that I use to seal the entire sculpture, the rich colors of the wood comes out and will often times surprise me. The depth of the colors are just beautiful. I continue to perfect my art while enjoying a great love of the outdoors, gardening and raising Golden Retrievers in this beautiful Southern NH forest.
